Welfare system in the U.K.
Liberal welfare state system
State pensions where the largest governmental expense, costing £86,500,000,000. Housing benefit was the second most expensive, accounting for over £20,000,000,000. £2,300,000,000 paid to unemployed people and £27,100,000,000 to people on low incomes. In total, the overall expenditure was 214 billion.

This came about between 1945-51. Overall, it plays an essential part in providing the protection and the promotion of social and economic wellbeing of citizens.

This is a prominent topic because political talk has been big recently after the election.

Something that happens in real life every day so it is always a prominent part of people's lives.

CRITICISM:
Many people argue that the fact its possible to claim benefits acts as an incentive to people who do not want to work and just claim benefits (also seen as a prominent topic).
Corbyn is against capitalism, instead preferring a socialist economic welfare system.

Daniel Blake feels that the welfare system has failed him, as he has "been treated like a dog instead of a man proud to have paid his dues to society".
