The Newspaper Industry

Media Institutions:
Institution - The values and ideologies of a media product.
Very different from "Industry".
More and more importance has been placed on the idea of the ideological aspects of industries.
It is a way to differentiate between products, and can give the consumer some idea of 'quality', which may influence a consumer's decision.
Long Road, like all other institutions needs to prove that it is different from other colleges, such as Hill's.
Long Road is a business like any other, it needs to enrol a certain number of students to remain economically viable. The same principal can be applied to any industry.
When describing where you to to college, saying "Long Road" is easier than describing its location.
Long road has clear messages and values; attending there will allow you to "move on up" from secondary education, studying here is challenging but also rewarding.

Logos
The easiest way for an institution to disseminate as quickly as possible is to have a unique and easily identifiable logo.
Playstation Logo:
Letters "PS" are shown through a futuristic style.
Pseudo 3-D, the "P" - standing for "Play" stands up, showing some movement. The "S" on the other hand, standing for "Station" is stationary, also looks slightly like a racetrack, which could showcase some of the games on the system - such as CTR.
4 distinct colours used - red (love, the most prominent), yellow (happiness, essential for a consumer to enjoy), teal (a 'younger' colour, shows that everyone can enjoy the console) , blue (feelings of cool, water, relaxed. Consumers want to be relaxed while gaming.)
All four colours show diversity and shows that everyone can play the games on the consoles.
This logo has been around since the PS1, which was a revolutionary console for the time (disk based), so it made sense for the logo to be futuristic. Advertising also played along with this idea, utilising the logo to its best potential.
Similar colours to the buttons on the controllers. The buttons are sometimes used as advertisements too.
The logo fits perfectly into a square.
The PlayStation 2 advertisements are more psychedelic than the PS1, focusing on 'trippy' visuals rather than the future, the logo becomes less present in these advertisements.

Daily Mirror:
BOLD WORDS AND CATCHY HEADLINES
Bait for some viewers
Trump On The Gropes // Could be a play on words of "Trump On The Ropes" 'party deserts him over sleazy boasts'.
Very attention grabbing words: sex scandal,, grope, bombshell
Another play on words "Gutted at Axe" // makes it sound like she has been attacked by an axe when in actual fact she was dropped from a show.
"FULL STORY" temps the viewer to buy it to read more.
Over the top images are taken quite literally, with images sprawling over the edges of the frames on page.
Blocky, relies more on images than text to sell copies.
