Editing techniques, including pace and transitions

Sweatpants - The music video is unique because it all takes place within a diner, every character in the video is Donald Glover (Gambino), the pace is quite fast as he walks about the diner, and it looks like one continuous shot, at the end of the video, he returns to the diner and everyone looks like him and the video resets, like a loop.

Dayvan Cowboy - the video is really slow paced, it starts out in space, with slow moving parts and an astronaut jumping out of a shuttle, the video begins to pick up speed as the astronaut is falling, and when it looks like he is about to hit earth, it cuts to a video of the ocean, which is where the pacing of the music changes, fitting the giant waves in the ocean, much like the waves someone would surf over. the transition is very sudden and seamless and takes a second for the eye to register.

Minerals & Gems - This music video features 2 versions of Jonwayne, the first is of him digging and looking into a hole, the second version is him underwater, floating around and rapping. Overall the video is quite dark in colour, with the water being a dark blue and the rest being colour corrected to be dark. The pace of the video is fairly slow, as there aren't many locations in the video.

Colour and mise-en-scene

Sweatpants - The colours in this video vary quite differently, they are quite dreamlike when he is inside the diner, and they change to be more stark and realistic when he steps outside. The colours inside the diner are quite washed out and bright, which is why the contrast works well. The video looking like one continuous shoot works well for the mise-en-scene, as it allows the producer to be more abstract with what they are shooting. Looking around in the shots are interesting because it is almost as if there are different stories in the background happening at the same time as the main narrative with Glover.

Dayvan Cowboy - The colours used in this video are mostly different shades of blue, this produces quite a calm atmosphere, which is sometimes contrasted in the video by the different events happening, a good example of this is the calm blues and the overall tranquility that we usually associate with the ocean being contrasted with the crashing waves and sense of danger created from jumping out of a space shuttle. The mis-en-scene within this music video is not usually too deep, this is because of the features seen in the locations, as there is only two, space and in the middle of the ocean, a purposeful sense of isolation is created through having two very empty places featured in the video, distilling a faint sense of fear in the consumer, which works compared with the genre of music, as there are no lyrics in the song.
